Columbia Valley Junior Golf Tour continues!

 In News

The Columbia Valley Junior Golf Tour kicked off on April 22 at Riverside golf course in Fairmont Hot Springs with approximately 12 golfers. Over the course of the last month the number of participants in the Tour events has swelled to 38, with participants coming from many communities across the Valley including: Canal Flats, Windermere, Fairmont Hot Springs, Invermere & Edgewater.

Every week participants have visit a different golf course along the Trail, hit the driving range to get warmed up (and maybe receive some pointers from the professionals) and then get out on the course for 3-6 holes of golf. Participants have a wide degree of experience with golf, from the completely new golfer to a handful of hearty competitors!

Each stop of the Tour has featured its own flair for the participants, including complimentary ice cream at The Springs and a water balloon driving competition at Eagle Ranch.

With no entry fee and equipment available to borrow, the goal of the inaugural Junior Tour is to introduce as many kids in the Valley to golf as possible. Having no way of knowing in advance the level of interest or the level of junior golfers that existed in the Valley it has been an excellent adventure thus far.

It is expected that the Junior Tour will continue as a yearly event – following on the heels of in school golf and at the course learning by each school in the Valley. The courses along the Trail look forward to seeing how players develop each year and take advantage of the multitude of junior golf camps, lessons and instruction across the Valley.

The Junior Tour is now halfway through its run for 2014 – however participants are still welcome to sign up and join in the fun!
