Road Trip via Golden, BC – Don’t Miss Out!

If your visit to the Columbia Valley involves a road trip, we recommend driving via Golden, BC to avoid delays due to wildfires.

Traveling from Calgary? The route via Golden offers rewarding scenery and lots of opportunities for fun pit stops. This 4 hour drive takes you along highway #1 west through Banff National Park, past Lake Louise to Yoho National Park, through Field, BC to Golden, BC where you join highway #95 south.

Lake Louise, Alberta

Depending on the time of day you are traveling, you could consider stopping at the world famous Lake Louise and/or Moraine Lake in the Valley of the Ten Peaks, a short drive from Lake Louise.  You can even choose to hike up to two tea houses.  These areas are exceptionally beautiful and therefore very busy during peak times. Best to try to visit very early, or during dinner time, or later in the season.

Yoho National Park & Field, BC

There is so much to see and do in Yoho National Park. If you are looking for a quick rewarding stop consider the Natural Bridge and Emerald Lake. Rent a boat to take out on Emerald Lake. Both sites are close to the highway and offer limited parking nearby and incredible views. Field, BC is a cute community with a picturesque church and a handful of local businesses.

Golden, BC

With 6 national parks, 3 mountain ranges and 2 historic rivers there is plenty of fun to be had around Golden. If you are looking for a quick pit stop you could go for a walk along the mighty Kicking Horse River, don’t miss the covered pedestrian bridge, or even drive up to the Kicking Horse Ski Resort. If you are an animal lover don’t miss the Northern Lights Wildlife Wolf Centre.
